::::What do you start with? The pattern? The fabric? A sketch or an abstract idea?
I noticed that especially when it comes to sewing for myself I prefer to start with the fabric. I like to observe its material qualities and imagine what it wants to become and then what I would want it to become. Sometimes it’s doable sometimes isn’t - maybe because my ideas were too far off or simply because I might not have the sewing skills required to make it happen.::Voi da cosa iniziate?
Morgan Jeans!
::::Jeans are less difficult to make than one might think. All you need is a sturdy sewing machine that doesn’t hate topstitching thread. Actually, to think about it I made my first pair using regular sewing thread and a triple stitch, which is strong and elastic. Otherwise jeans are just pants made out of denim, a strong and very forgiving fabric. You can sew and unpick many, many times and it won’t mind. All you need to do is follow the instructions and the instructions of the Morgan Jeans like those of the Ginger Jeans are beautifully written; plus Heather, the designer, has all kinds of useful tutorials on her blog!::I jeans sono meno difficili da cucire di quello che si pensa. Ti serve soltanto una machina da cucire solida e che possibilmente non odi il filo da impuntura. In verità, se ci penso, ho cucito il mio primo paio usando filo normale e un punto triplo che è resistente e elastico allo stesso tempo. A parte ciò i jeans sono solo pantaloni in denim, tessuto molto forte e che perdona tanto. Puoi letteralmente cucire e scucire un sacco di volte senza grossi problemi. Tutto quello che bisogna fare e seguire le istruzioni e i Jeans Morgan come i Jeans Ginger prima, hanno delle istruzioni eccellenti; in più, Heather, la designer, ha pubblicato tutt’una serie di tutorial utilissimi nel suo blog!::::
::::A book and a tee::Un libro e una maglietta::::
::::Let’s talk a bit about taste. Taste, which was one of the cornerstones of philosophical aesthetics, itself a product of Enlightenment, has very much fallen from view in our times of “fast fashion”. To ask a person in the street “what is your taste?” is most probably going to result in puzzlement and a mere enumeration of the brands they intend to buy. This is especially true if that person is under 20. The idea of aesthetic taste as an individual trait has been fading for a while now under the pressure of advertising and social media. Can fashion exist only as a collective structure inside which the dress taste of individuals becomes irrelevant?::Parliamo un po’ di gusto. Il gusto, uno dei concetti fondamentali dell’estetica filosofica, prodotto dell’Illuminismo, è stato molto trascurato in questi tempi di “fast fashion”. Di fronte alla richiesta di definire il proprio gusto, molti rimarrebbero sconcertati e risponderebbero facendo semplicemente l’elenco dei marchi che intendono comprare. Questo scenario si dimostra particolarmente veritiero se la persona intervistata ha meno di vent’anni. L’idea di gusto estetico come tratto individuale sembra lentamente scomparire dal nostro quotidiano sotto la pressione dell’advertising e dei social media. Può la moda esistere unicamente come una struttura collettiva all’interno della quale il gusto nel vestire dei singoli individui diventa irrilevante?::::
